On Saturday, February 15, 2014 PRESSA representatives attended NJEA’s 2014 Legislative and Political Conference at the Westin Forrestal Village.
The annual conference is an opportunity to be part of the discussion on education reform, to get educated on evolving issues, and to get involved in the legislative issues that affect all public school employees and public school retirees. At the conference, in addition to hearing that NJ Education Commissioner Cerf is resigning (AND where he is headed), we also discussed what is to come (the new Commissioner might be one of your neighbors!).
Now is the time to begin thinking about how the occupants of the Statehouse align with your values and priorities as a teacher or educational support professional. The conference will be an important opportunity to have conversations with your colleagues from across the state and with your elected leaders about what matters most to you.
Attendee, Eli Tsonkova, our PHS Learning Commons Assistant says,
“The Legislative & Political Action Conference (which was held at Princeton this year) would be informative for members of the negotiation teams, for people who would like to learn more about current legislative and/or regulatory changes or just to meet union elected leaders. Event like this one is a great opportunity to ask legislators questions, to meet colleagues from the state, to hear and share ideas and stories which I believe would be helpful to take right decisions.”
If you are interested in joining a Legislative Action Team (PRESSA LAT or Mercer County LAT), please see your building rep, or email PRESSA leadership to sign up.
